Why Earth School of the Now

Once upon a time the great sage Manu was performing austerities on the bank of a river. A small fish jumped into his folded hands seeking protection from bigger sea creatures. Manu deposited the fish into a pot and the next day, to his astonishment, found the fish grown to the size of the pot.

Manu kept transferring the ever-expanding fish into a well, a lake, a river and subsequently into the sea; only to find the fish grown to the size of the sea with a horn on it.

Eventually Manu identified the fish as Lord Vishnu (the caretaker of the universe), who revealed the motive of the act and warned Manu about the inevitable: all of creation was going to get inundated. Manu was advised by Lord Vishnu to board, on the day of the disaster, a boat built for him along with seven sages. He was also asked to carry herbs and seeds of all the important living entities; and to tie the boat to the horn of the fish with a serpent to serve as a rope.

In the aftermath of massive floods, amid the destruction of the old world, with powerful winds tossing the boat, the gigantic fish sailed the boat for a long time in the dark and took them to a new safe abode.

Similar to the Genesis narrative of the flood and Noah’s ark; this story of great deluge is found with some modifications, in mythical tales of many ancient civilizations.

Why is this story so pertinent here?

Because this narrative is about changing times.  It’s about transitional periods.

The fish denotes the changing times. Small at the beginning, changes eventually encompass all of creation, forcing us to pivot ourselves into the new world.  We cannot suppress the changes, so we choose to align ourselves to the direction of this gigantic fish. It alone will guide us to the new safe abode; wherein a new dawn is waiting for mankind.

Manu is the new mind or the new thought process and the seven sages in the boat are the supporting team of like-minded people. The seeds represent the extract of old wisdom and the rope is the collective faith of the team in the process of transition, tied tightly to the horn of the fish. The boat is the medium of transition, in our case, the Earthschool of the Now (EON).
