You see our logo above.  The icon portion is a stylized take on the Yin-Yang symbol.  The intricate designs are in the style of "mehndi", also known as "henna" - which you'll find in abundance on mostly women's hands, arms, and feet during times of celebration, especially weddings in India and neighboring countries.  Yin and Yang loosely correspond to the marriage of Shiva and Shakti, the manifesting and still aspects of existence.  There's also a lotus in our yin-yang design similar to how chakras are imagined.

Our name is Saatvik Institute.  Saatvik has a lot of connotations in Sanskrit.  One way to define it would be "pristine".  In the Sankhya philosophy of India, nature is thought to consist of a matrix of 3 categories of "gunas", which translates both as "string" and "characteristic".   These interwoven strings vibrate with a variety of frequencies, and that in turn appears as the phenomenal universe.  Of the modes of vibration, "Sattva" is the pristine, harmonious one, the pure one, and that which is characterized by "Sattva" is "Saatvik".

To be able to abide in the Eternal, which is a timeless state of presence, one's psyche and consciousness has to go through the process of becoming Saatvik before finally reaching a point where it transcends the 3 gunas completely.

Saatvik Institute is all about providing Saatvik wisdom traditions (and Saatvik food and hospitality) to all who come here.   We hope you become more and more Saatvik with each visit!

Oh, and another thing: Saatvik is also the name of the Innkeepers' older son!
